The following are suggestions that I think will make
your trip more enjoyable.
- Make sure your
wife and family members know where to get emergency contact information
- Make sure your
wife and family members have access to the emergency contact list
(phone numbers
and hotels).
- Print out the
emergency contact list and bring
with you.
- Review the general
packing
list for any items you may have forgotten.
- Fill up your bike
with gas the DAY BEFORE we leave.
- Check your tire
pressure.
- Bring a few extra
rags to clean your windshield in the morning.
- For you BMW riders,
remember in Europe how Leon added oil to your bike halfway through
the trip - you may need a little oil??
- Bring two pair
of riding gloves, cold in the morning, hot the rest of the day.
- Bring your bike
registration and insurance certificates.
- Trial pack your
bike to see if everything fits (two gallon zip lock bags work best).
- Bring a map (with
the route marked on it).
- Bring sunscreen.
- It will probably
be cool in the mornings and hotTTTTT the rest of the day, make sure
you can store your jacket on the bike somewhere
(usually a nylon gym bag strapped to the passenger seat works well
- storing it loose allows the arms to drag).
- If you have any
electronics (phone, digital camera etc) remember to either bring
the charger or extra batteries.
- If you are worried
about your bike being stolen, bring a cable and padlock.
- Bring a spare
ignition key.
- If you wear contacts,
the wind will dry them out, bring spare glasses and contact cleaner.
- Bring a roll of
toilet paper (can you spell emergency?)
